Sample Requirements

Product hydrocarbon characterization (gas chromatography analysis)
Sample size: Requires a few drops of sample, 40 ml preferred.
Container: Prefer a 40 ml glass vial with Teflon lined seal on cap.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Soil hydrocarbon characterization (extraction and gas chromatography analysis)
Sample size: Requires 20 grams of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: Collect and ship on ice.

Water hydrocarbon characterization (extraction and gas chromatography analysis)
Sample size: Requires 40 ml of sample. Duplicate samples are recommended.
Container: Prefer 40 ml voa vials with Teflon seals.
Preservation: Collect and ship on ice

Density of free product (ASTM Method 4052)
Sample size: Requires 5 ml of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Total Lead analysis of free product (Preparation Method EPA 3050. Analysis Method EPA 6010)
Sample size: Requires 3 ml of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Total Sulfur (ASTM Method D4239C)
Sample size: Requires 3 ml of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Viscosity (Brookfield DV-II)
Sample size: Requires 2 ml of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Surface Tension of Water (ASTM Method D971)
Sample size: Requires 80 ml of sample (can be two 40 ml vials).
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: Collect and ship on ice.

Surface Tension of NAPL (ASTM Method D971)
Sample size: Requires 40 ml of sample.
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: No preservation necessary.

Interfacial Tension of Water and NAPL (ASTM Method D971)
Sample size: Requires 80 ml of water and 40 ml of NAPL sample (can use the same samples as used for the surface tension measurements).
Container: Prefer a glass container with a Teflon seal.
Preservation: Collect and ship water on ice, no preservation necessary for NAPL.
